Title:  "Going For the Oscar"

Air Date:  December 6, 2007
ERIK
Written By:  Michele Kevany
Hae Da Fung returned to camp, under night thirty's moon
The ousting of power player James had been successful
For six remaining players, his torch snuffing was a boon
However, executing the scheme had been quite stressful

Amanda called it "the most shocking Tribal Council yet"
Hearing Jeff read off his name made Todd "so nervous"
If James played an idol, his own ejection was a sure bet
Todd would have landed in seventh place, like Gervase

Among Fei Long's final four, and Erik, hugs were shared
As from inside the shelter, a smiling Peih-Gee looked on
That Fei Long was impenetrable, she no longer despaired
Since the merge, two of their original six were now gone

Peih-Gee hoped to sway one away, thereby forcing a tie
The following morning, the six took shelter from a storm
Inside the small cave they piled, as rain fell from on high
The weather, and missing home, had Todd a bit forlorn

Later, under a sunny sky, a reward challenge awaited
Jeff called them in, and before a giant maze they stood
They will need "speed and communication", Jeff stated
He then explained that which needed to be understood

At opposite ends of the maze will stand teams of two
Through the maze they will navigate, for a mate to find
A center platform, once united, they'll make their way to
To make it "more interesting", they'll run the course blind

The first team atop the center platform, will take the prize
"Shall we get your paired up?", Jeff would casually ask
What Jeff revealed next would take them all by surprise
In the warm embrace of a loved one, each would bask

Erik was stunned to see his mother, Denise, appear
With obvious joy, Erik hugged his visiting familial link
Amanda's sister, Katrina, enthusiastically drew near
To her forgiving sister, Amanda said, "sorry, I stink"

Upon seeing her father, Lawrence, Peih-Gee cried
Lawrence told his elated daughter she looked thin
Todd's sister, Brandy, had news she couldn't hide
An unfortunate, and personal, loss befell their kin

"She lost the baby", Brandy whispered in his ear
Todd brought back to the mat a case of the blues
Jeff asked Todd what was said, so all could hear
An emotional Todd relayed the unsettling news

An often caustic Courtney stood meek as a lamb
As Jeff called in a visitor who looked out of sorts
Courtney cried when she saw her father, Graham
The dapper Englishman said, "we don't do shorts"

Denise gave a big hug to her husband, Robert
"Can I have your socks?", she would inquire
That Denise surely could, he'd happily assert
To victory, stated Jeff, each must now aspire

Jeff told the visitors they would be competing
"I'm sorry", said Courtney, to her alarmed dad
Everyone was blindfolded, before proceeding
Though not before hearing what was to be had

A "huge meal" awaited, on a boat upon the lake
As well, the winner receives a coveted phone call
With family back home, conversation they'll make
And, with their loved one, they'll be enjoying it all

"Survivors and loved ones ready...go!", was heard
Through the winding wooden fences, they wound
Both Amanda and Katrina used the call of the bird
Together, they produced quite an authentic sound

Denise and Robert were the first team to connect
Connecting as well were Peih-Gee and her father
The location of the sisters, everyone could detect
For Denise, their bird calls were a bit of a bother

Though obviously not too much, given her lead
Together, Denise and Robert were working well
Ultimately, their teamwork helped them succeed
"Denise and Robert win reward!", Jeff would yell

Jeff said two other teams could share in the reward
Perhaps feeling sympathetic, Denise opted for Todd
Amanda was ecstatic when Denise asked her aboard
For Peih-Gee, her second choice was disturbingly odd

Lawrence, Graham and Denise were tearfully dismissed
For Hae Da Fung, Peih-Gee, Courtney and Erik departed
As for the triumphant couple, they affectionately kissed
Jeff handed Denise a phone, and the reward got started

One last detail, to Denise and her guests, was afforded
The loved ones shall return to camp, at the reward's end
In the morning, a home bound boat will then be boarded
The three were excited at the prospect of a night to spend

Once on the boat, a tasty meal was promptly devoured
Pizza, ribs, chicken, and a scrumptious chocolate cake
A phone call from home had Denise feeling empowered
She spoke with her daughter, from atop a Chinese lake

Meanwhile, back at camp, Peih-Gee reflected on the day
For Denise, Peih-Gee thought herself the logical choice
A certain visit to the Shaolin Temple wasn't put into play
An opinion of another sort, Erik felt compelled to voice

In a quiet tone, he said, "I have to get this off my chest"
He had a feeling Todd's family misfortune was contrived
Likewise, Courtney felt Todd's story failed the smell test
From Fairplay's playbook, felt she, the idea was derived

That Todd was "going for the Oscar", Courtney believed
With sarcastic embellishment, she aped Todd's earlier pain
She viewed the scenario, no pun intended, as preconceived
It was sympathy, thought Courtney, that Todd hoped to gain

Later, three survivors, and three loved ones were returned
For the begrudged three on shore, it was not a happy sight
Realizing all she missed, Peih-Gee felt all the more burned
After the gift she granted Denise, it just did not seem right

Elsewhere, Todd, Amanda, and their siblings took a soak
That no duplicity had been employed, Todd would impart
He feared the others might have regarded it a cruel joke
Todd's said his concern had come straight from the heart

On shore, Denise and Robert were discussing the game
Along with Todd and Amanda, she would see final three
Still, said Denise, a back-stabbing may quash her flame
For Todd and Amanda could make a switch to Courtney

Meanwhile, in the lake, Denise was being discussed
Amanda felt Denise would understand exiting at four
Keeping Denise away from the final three was a must
Amanda felt she'd garner the "sob story" vote for sure

Both Amanda and he, admitted Todd, had upset the jury
Therefore, a decent chance for each was to be expected
Seemingly, sitting aside Courtney was no cause for worry
That they'd make "a cute final three", Amanda interjected

On day thirty two, Robert, Brandy and Katrina sailed away
Denise headed for the shelter, after waving a final farewell
To a subdued Peih-Gee, Denise wished a few words to say
Peih-Gee said she was upset, and Denise said she could tell

Denise claimed to feel "very vulnerable" within her group
It was a precarious apple cart she was reluctant to upset
Additionally, a weary, depleted Amanda needed to recoup
"The sympathy card" said Peih-Gee, may not be a bad bet

Peih-Gee was appreciative, if not particularly appeased
She was feeling "a little better", after they had spoken
The next chance at immunity, she will have to seize
For at every Tribal, she's needed the coveted token

On day thirty three, Peih-Gee's opportunity arrived
An immunity challenge awaited the remaining six
A battle both physical and mental, Jeff described
To extremely long ropes, each survivor will affix

In a long, swampy course, obstacles were situated
To pass them, they'll move "over, under, or around"
Only by snaking the rope can the course be navigated
At the end of the line, three tethered boxes will be found

Inside are two statements, each about a Chinese invention
One statement will be false, and one statement will be true
Each statement has a key; deciding on one is the intention
With key in hand, the course they'll again snake through

To the start they must return, where three locks await
Their key will unlock one lock, if their choice was wise
The first player with three unlocked locks will celebrate
For their flag of victory will be pointing toward the skies

On Jeff's "go!", into the swamp the survivors jumped
Todd, Amanda and Peih-Gee would take an early lead
At untangling a snag in his rope, Erik looked stumped
Todd was first at the end, and two questions he'd read

With a first key retrieved, Todd raced back to the start
Shortly, Amanda and Peih-Gee had a first key in hand
Todd opened a first lock, and for a second key he'd dart
Back on the starting platform, Amanda would then stand

Once Amanda opened a first lock, Peih-Gee did the same
Unfortunately, Erik's first key chosen afforded him no gain
Todd and Amanda hurried back, for a second lock to claim
As for Denise and Courtney, further effort seemed in vain

Todd
's second key was good, whereas Amanda's was not
After opening a second lock, Peih-Gee wore a happy grin
Still, her chance of winning wasn't looking especially hot
For with a third key in hand, Todd was headed for a win

However, Todd's final answer was to be his undoing
Peih-Gee surpassed him, and was first to raise a flag
That Peih-Gee won immunity, five others were ruing
For they figured the upcoming Tribal was in the bag

Back at camp, an emotional Peih-Gee was overcome
Her win was "one of the proudest moments" of her life
For Todd, her win meant Erik was now the doomed one
Still, Todd wondered if at his own back was aimed a knife

On the lake, Amanda and Erik slowly rowed the boat
The validity of Todd's family business was considered
Erik said if Todd can't be trusted, he should get her vote
Amanda's normally calm exterior appeared a bit jittered

Later, Erik and Peih-Gee discussed negotiating a tie
They informed Denise she faced an ousting at four
On their votes, Denise was promised she could rely
It would benefit all three, were they to even the score

To Tribal Council they hiked, on night thirty three
Denise considered her decision to be "do or die"
She weighed flipping over to Erik and Peih-Gee
Denise was uncertain if she should force a tie

Jeff welcomed the six, after which the jury filed by
As to the reward, Amanda was asked about the day
Since a peek into Denise's life she was able to spy
Did Amanda now regard Denise in a different way?

"Definitely", said Amanda, saying she was blessed
Jeff asked Denise if a downside could be detected
It could come back to bite her, Denise confessed
Now that her good and happy life was inspected

They may fear her in the finals, she would add
Jeff asked Denise why they should be afraid
For her, she replied, the jury may not feel bad
Or, they may reward her for the life she's made

Jeff asked Peih-Gee if the vote was a done deal
Peih-Gee believed the outcome was up in the air
It was unclear just what the ballots would reveal
She said four need weigh their options with care

Jeff asked Erik if he had done all that he could
Erik said Fei Long need realize it's four to two
For one, three to three should look pretty good
With that, Jeff said the questioning was through

An eleventh player exited on the thirty third day
Zhan Hu's two hoped persuasion did the trick
With the four, an uneasy Denise chose to stay
The torch that Jeff snuffed belonged to Erik
